Tallahassee, Florida, USA: A heartbreaking incident unfolded at a beach in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, South Florida, where a young girl tragically lost her life on Tuesday. The source of the tragedy was a deep hole that she and a little boy were diligently digging, which ultimately collapsed, burying them both.

When emergency responders arrived around 3 p.m., they discovered the 8-year-old boy partially buried up to his chest in sand, as revealed by Sandra King, a spokesperson for Pompano Beach Fire Rescue. The 7-year-old girl, unfortunately, bore the brunt of the collapse, completely submerged beneath the boy. The hole they were digging measured 5 or 6 feet (1.8 meters) in depth.

In the rescue efforts, responders tactically employed support boards to prevent further collapses of the sand. With shovels in hand, they worked diligently to carefully unearth the trapped children. Unfortunately, the duration of their entrapment remains unclear.

Tragically, the young girl was swiftly rushed to Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale, where her passing was later confirmed. Miraculously, the boy, though undoubtedly shaken by the ordeal, was admitted to the hospital in stable condition.

The circumstances surrounding whether an adult was supervising the children during their hole excavation remain shrouded in uncertainty.
